Big Finish Audio

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

With Barrie not working and the prospect of him finding a job before the New Year,  I have a lot to stress about.  So, I am glad I found something new to love and help me relieve the stress.  From Chicago Tardis my new obsession is Big Finish Audio Plays.  Now this is sad, because they cost money, but I just finished listening to “The Blood of the Daleks” part 1 and 2.  I bought part one at Chicago Tardis.

I walked up to the dealer who was selling them, “I have never listened to any Big Finish Audio, and I want to try one.”

The woman said “Do you like Paul McGann’s Doctor?”

“I love Paul McGann’s Doctor.”

She pointed out a CD and said, “Why not start at the beginning with the first one?”

I plopped down my money and was done.

So on the treacherous drive back to Rock Hill Monday, I popped the CD in the drive.  I was so excited to hear McGann’s Doctor and was so involved with the story I was laughing out loud at times.  When it got to the end of Part 1, I told Barrie to pop the next one in quick so we could finish part 2.  Imagine my surprise when he said “There was is no 2nd CD!”  During the CT weekend, I remembered hearing one of the guests that worked at Big Finish talking about how they wished they had not packaged the Audio plays as 2 CD sets so they could make more money- so I assumed that the 2nd part of the play would be included in the one I bought! What kind of shop keeper sells you one part of a 2 part audio play????  WTF?????  So I went online this weekend after not being able to stand it and got the 2nd part.  No fancy CD, just and audio file, but I can live with that.  (Don’t need the fancy case and CD anyway when I am just going to DL it to my ipod anyway)

So for 50 minutes I got to forget about money and stress (after I had just talked with my parents who were less than understanding about not having any money for their presents this year) and just listen to what the Doctor was going through.  McGann’s Doctor is very funny and it had me laughing several times out loud.  Barrie kept looking at me like I had 2 heads…..what’s new. So now I have to put that on my ipod so I can have a bit of the Doctor where ever I am, whenever I need him.

“So in the meantime, Lucie Miller, it seems like we are stuck together.”

::Lucie sighs::  “Fantastic.”

::the Doctor’s voice drips sarcasm::  “Whatever.”

Chicago Tardis Last Day

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

It seems that every day I forget to add something important, and I don’t remember until the next day! Yesterday, I was given an Adipose. There was a nice lady and her husband sitting a row in front of us with one as we sat down behind her I noticed that she had one sticking out if her bag. I had a fit, very quietly because someone was on stage speaking at the time. I poked Barrie and cooed over it until I thought he might actually break something rolling his eyes. As soon as the panel was over I accosted her. “Where did you get it? It is so cute!” Turns out she made it. Someone sure is handy! I could not believe it! She accepted my compliments and after I had fawned nearly 10 minutes over how perfect it was and why had they not marketed them and sold them, although anything they marketed and sold would not be as nice as hers, She pulled it from her bag and handed it to me saying “Here, you take this one. You can have it.” Turns out she said she had brought some to give away so I could just have this one. I snatched it from her hands and hugged it like a greedy little kid. I thanked her profusely and for the next panel Barrie had to put up with me poking him and pointing to it, which I had tucked in my bag and had him peeking out. I would move him around, make his little arm wave and then poke Barrie again. After an hour, I am sure he was ready to kill this woman for giving it to me. At the end of the 2nd panel he tapped her on the shoulder, asked her name and thanked her again for giving it to me because it made me so happy. I remember vaguely thinking perhaps I should have been the one to ask her name and thank her again, but I was too busy playing with my Adipose. So Thank you Vickie(sp) for being so generous and giving me your Adipose. I LOVE him and he will always have a good home with me.

From the second I saw “Partners in Crime”, I was in love with the Adipose. They were so cute, and made this little cooing type noise, and hey, when you are working on fat acceptance a cute creature made entirely of human fat cells goes a long way to helping that acceptance thing.

Sunday dawned cloudy and cold. The weather had turned and instead of snow flurries we are supposed to have a snow storm. The first of the season. Barrie and I spend about 2 hours trying to decide what we were going to do. We talked to locals, went outside to check the weather, checked the weather channel and checked the web for weather averages. Watching the weather channel made me more nervous than anything because they talked like it was a blizzard coming in. While we debated, it started snowing…..so really the decision was already made for us. We had extra money for another night in the hotel and food if needed, I had leave so if I couldn’t get home, I couldn’t get home, and there still was one more day of the convention we wanted attend. So we decided to stay. Good thing too because Barrie got the ultimate in stalker fanboy moments. He got Nick and Rob Sherman cornered and got them to sign his Dalek. Yes, Dalek got 2 tattoos in Chicago. I also got some pictures of Barrie, Rob and Nick. I am sure he will have them enlarged, framed and hang them over our wedding pictures. The last day of the con was like any other last day of a con, bitter sweet. You are having a blast, but you know it is all coming to a end soon. The last panel of the day was called “The state of the Whoniverse.” All the guests left at the con on stage and it was kind of a free for all with questions. The funniest moment that happened was Nick Briggs accidentally saying that an older actor could not possibly keep up with the Doctor Who schedule. Colin Baker took great offense and for the last 30 minutes he took every chance he had to mention it again and say things like “I couldn’t possibly do that because I am old and couldn’t keep up.” It was funny, and just a little uncomfortable….very British. So finally my first Doctor Who convention has come to an end. It has snowed all day. Who knows (no pun intended) if we will be able to leave in the morning or not. I have emailed my boss just to make sure she is aware. I took Monday off, but if we can’t leave tomorrow, I will need to be off Tuesday too. Sunday afternoon was full of taking one last set of pictures of use hanging out o f the Tardis, taking Dalek apart and packing him into the car in the snow (fun fun), then getting some dinner, by the time we had him packed up and had fed ourselves, it was time for bed. So, will we be lucky or not? Who knows. :)
