The Train Job

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

The Charlotte Browncoats had a shindig today.  It was called “The Train Job”.  It was basically a scavenger hunt using the new light rail system in Charlotte.  We were divided into 3 teams and armed with cell phones and digital cameras we had a list clues that would lead you to take pictures of stuff and a few things to buy along the way.  My team consisted of 4 people, Barrie, Jacob, Danny and me.  I will say right now that if it had not been for Danny and Jacob, we might not have done so well.  They had considerable knowledge of Charlotte and that helped decipher the clues.  One of the main reasons  I wanted to go was because I figured it would help me learn Charlotte, the light rail and have some fun with other Browncoat fans.  I am so glad I went.  I had a blast!  The weather could have been better (40′s grey and windy and ll of the light rail stations are open air) but I not only rode the rails for the first time, but I also learned about some places in Charlotte I would love to go back and explore given more time (like Pikes Pharmacy and the entire downtown area) .  The Browncoats are an unusual group.  Not nerdy like the Rock Hill chapter of Starfleet, but not boringly normal with no interest in scifi TV at all so it is easy to make in jokes and say things like shiny.  Kind of the best of both worlds really- shiny.
